This 6-hour on-site presentation will present EMDR theapy in the treatment of first-responders and veterans with a range of clinical presentations. Dr. Hurley serves on both national and state-wide referral networks for treating these populations as well as three decades of military service in the treatment of soldiers and veterans. Characteristics of these special populations will be reviewed. Participants will learn to assess and treat responders who often have one precipitating event with numerous unresolved events from the past. Veterans have a wide variety of military-related clinical presentations. Both case conceptualization and treatment planning are reviewed. The presenter presents both weekly and well as EMDR intensive programs (Hurley, 2018) in the treatment of of emergency responders, law enforcement personnel and veterans. Numerous treatment strategies for effective resolving trauma is presented ranging from EMDR Early Interventions (EEI) to the treatment of complex trauma. Particular attention to suicidal issues are included among these populations which exhibit such a high suicidal rate.

About the Trainer
E. C. Hurley, DMin, PhD
E. C. Hurley, DMin, PhD, is the Founder and CEO of Soldier Center, a community-based treatment center and EMDR training center specializing in the military, veterans, first-responder populations. A retired Army Colonel with 33 years military service, he specializes in treating persons with complex PTSD and moral injury. He presents EMDR basic and advanced trainings with a focus on these populations. He holds doctorates in pastoral counseling (DMin) and Clinical Psychology (PhD). He is a recipient of the Elizabeth Stryker EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program (EMDR HAP) Volunteer of the Year award (2010) and EMDRIA’s Francine Shapiro award (2019). He served on the first rotation of the EMDRIA Council of Scholars. He is author of several publications including his research in comparing EMDR weekly and intensive treatments (Frontiers, 2018), co-authored a chapter on EMDR therapy in “Casebook to the APA Clinical Practice /guideline for the Treatment of PTSD,” and a newly released book “Clinical Guide for Treating Military and Veterans with EMDR Therapy” (Springer Publishing, 2020).
